Classic Tuolumne Film: “High Noon”

Any doubt High Noon was filmed in Tuolumne County is erased in the very first frame, as we see the speechless gang member (Lee Van Cleef in his very first role) having a smoke on pure TC tombstone rock. The exact location is somewhere on Brooks Ranch, about 12 miles SW of Jamestown. Other locations include Columbia and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tuolumne.

  1. Very comprehensive list of movies. I recall a lot of those that were filmed into Tuolumne county.
I was pretty fortunate to actually watch them film quite a few of those movies.
Sense my aunt and uncle owned the lunchette cafe in Sonora they was the main source for catering during the shooting of these movies. In fact I was fortunate at the age of 10 being able to be in the movie High Noon. Although I was a scrawny little kid running around the old schoolhouse it was fun. Real funny I can remember that there was one movie they were making on the edge of phoenix lake. Pretty funny watching them to act during a brawl.
